It is always interesting to hear about how a business came up with their name. And since we are frequently asked about the meaning behind ours, Kings Cross Automotive, we thought it would be fun to share the details.
Our specialty is British vehicles; even more specifically, Jaguars, Land Rovers, and MINI’s. We wanted our name to have something to do with the origin of these beloved vehicles without being too obvious.
So we began our business name quest by researching places in London and quirky British sayings. Some of the ones that didn’t make the cut included: All the Kings Horsepower, Oil You Need is Love, The Dog’s Bollocks Auto Repair, and Piccadilly Autos. Our silly humor had taken over.
And then, we stumbled upon the inner city area of London called Kings Cross. We adored the name of the city and realized that it had more to do with transportation than we had originally thought.
The Kings Cross railway station, which was named after the above mentioned city and opened in 1852, is one of the major gateways into London from the North. It provides high speed inter-city services to places such as Yorkshire, the North East, and Scotland and commuter services to North London, Hertfordshire, and Cambridgeshire.
To the west, just across Pancras Road, is St. Pancras International which provides service to continental Europe. The two stations share Kings Cross St. Pancras tube station on the London Underground network and have formed one of Britain’s largest transportation hubs.
We love the idea of sharing a name with one of Britain’s busiest transportation hubs. We strive to be the Jaguar, Land Rover, and Mini Cooper transportation hub of Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon– keeping you and your vehicle happy and on the road.
