Is it time to service my vehicle’s air conditioning?

Spring has sprung in the PNW! Although we don’t use our vehicle’s air conditioning as much as other regions, it is still important to maintain and service the AC system.

It is generally recommended to have your vehicle’s air conditioning system serviced every two years, even if it appears to be functioning properly. However, the need for service can vary based on several factors such as the age of the vehicle, the frequency of use, and the climate conditions.
Did you know that your vehicle's air conditioning system also functions as a dehumidifier? When you turn on your vehicle's AC, it removes heat and moisture from the air inside of your vehicle, reducing the humidity level. The air conditioning system pulls in warm, moist air and then sends it over evaporator coils, which contain a refrigerant that cools the air and condenses the moisture out of it. The resulting dry air is then blown back into the vehicle's cabin through the vents. This is why you might notice water dripping from underneath your vehicle when you’ve been using the AC system; it’s actually condensation that has formed on the evaporator coils and is being drained away.

If you notice any of the following symptoms, it may be an indication that your British vehicle's air conditioning system needs service:
  • Fogging of the interior windows
  • The air blowing from the vents is not as cold as it used to be
  • The air conditioning system is taking longer than usual to cool the vehicle
  • Unpleasant odors are coming from the air conditioning system
  • The air conditioning system is making unusual noises
